SOURCES & SECRETS
18 June 2016 - Three globally recognisable senior interfaith leaders shared a stage at the inaugural CSCS interfaith dialogue series. Venerable Master Chin Kung, Bishop Terry Kee and Imam Habib Hassan al-Attas shared their insights and wisdoms on the topic ‘Sources & Secrets of Fasting’, at the Furama City Centre. Mr Sujadi Siswo, Senior Correspondent and Bureau Chief with Channel NewsAsia, moderated the discussion.
In his keynote closing, Guest-of-Honour Dr Maliki Osman, Mayor of South East District and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Defence shared that, “A key takeaway – is that the practice of fasting in each of our religions emphasises the importance of values such as self-discipline, humility, and compassion for others. Such sharing is important as it reminds us that despite our different subscriptions, we can find commonality in our shared values. It is only when we come together and share openly, narrow our differences and expand our common spaces, as we have done today, that we are able to build trust and mutual confidence with other religious communities and their leaders – so that we can live harmoniously together and resolve issues together.”
Over 200 guests from the main faiths in Singapore attended the dialogue, including members of the Inter-Religious Organisation, Singapore (IRO), and later shared the breaking of fast with their Muslim friends, who were having their Ramadan fast.
The dialogue event was partnered by Corporate Citizen Foundation, Furama City Centre and International Multi-Cultural Organisation, with support from Berita Harian and HSL Constructor.
